WE WILL BE UPDATING THIS PAGE ON A REGULAR BASIS - check back later for more answers to your frequently asked questions

When will the 2010 schedule and registration material be available?

The 2010 program information will be on the website on April 1st.

How do I know what class would be best for my child?

**This information will be updated in the Spring of 2010**

If you are returning, your ID card will state your child's current level. You can register for any classes at that level.

If you are new to the program and are between the ages of 7-17, you'll sign up for a Par Level class or camp.

If your child is between the ages of 4-6, you'll sign up for Tiny Tots.

If your child is between the ages of 6-18 with a disability, you can register for one of our adaptive golf classes.

How do we know if classes are cancelled due to poor weather?

Sometimes classes have to be cancelled due to the weather. If the weather is questionable, we will make every effort to limit any inconveniences to you.

Our general policy is that we will make a decision no sooner that 1.5 hours before the first scheduled class. (for example - call after 4:00pm for classes that begin at 5:30pm)

Please call The First Tee offices at 248-545-4929. If a decision has been made to cancel classes, that will be announced at the "Class Status" line (extension #5).

If the weather is questionable, please do not leave a voicemail message requesting a return call. Unfortunately, with a limited staff and over 1000 participants, we cannot get to all the calls. So for everyone's convenience, please call the number listed above and please do not call the golf course where classes are being held. (The golf courses are kind enough to allow us to have class and when they receive calls regarding The First Tee program, it disrupts their business.)

If a class has to be cancelled due to weather conditions make-ups are held based on total hours of instruction. During our 6 hour classes, we guarantee five (5) hours of instruction. During our 12 hour camps, we guarantee ten (10) hours of instruction.

Who is eligible to participate?

Boys and Girls between the ages of 7 & 17 are eligible. 6 year olds can register if they turn 7 during the calendar year.

What is the cost of the program?

The First Tee offers a number of different programs with a registration fee ranging from $40-$110. The fee amount can be found on the schedule of classes.

What type of payment do you accept?

Registration fees can be paid with: check, cash, Visa, Mastercard, Discover or American Express.

What is certification?

Upon completion of a class session or camp, the children will participate in certifications. Certifications usually take place at the end of the last day of the session or camp. During certifications, the children are evaluated on their knowledge of the life skills curriculum as well as their golf skills. Following certifications, the participants are placed into one of our 8 levels and will receive a photo ID card and a list of local golf courses that will allow them to play for $2!

Certifications are not pass / fail. They are an opportunity for us to make sure the participants are progressing appropriately and to ensure that they are always placed in classes with other children at a similar level.

How do I know what my child must achieve for each level?

Does my child need their own golf equipment?

Yes. However, The First Tee of Detroit has a used club program that makes purchasing clubs very affordable. If you do not have equipment, please specify that on the application and clubs will be made available on the first day of class. Cost for the clubs is $20 and may be paid via cash or check. At the end of the year, if you choose not to keep the clubs, you may return them to The First Tee of Detroit for a $15 refund.

What is the refund policy?

A full refund will be given if you cancel more than one week prior to the start of the class or camp.

50% refund will be given if you cancel between two and seven days prior to the scheduled start of the class or camp.

No refund will be given if you cancel within two business days of the start date.
